ABSTRACT      The prevalence of scoliosis at the University of Santo Tomas High School was 1.2% or 12 per 1000 in our population. 95% were female and in the 15-16 years old bracket (90%). Double curves (Type I and II) accounted for 35.3% of the form seen. Adam's test gave a prevalence of 74.1%, while a scoliometer threshold of 7 yielded 100% for a curve magnitude of greater than 10, while a prevalence of 29.6% for the Adam's test and 88.9% for a scoliometer threshold of 7 was noted for a curve magnitude of 20. For a curve magnitude of 30. Adam's test and scoliometer threshold of 7 had no missed cases. Of the 12 identified cases, close follow-up was advised to the female students (95%), those who had right thoracic and double curve pattern (64.7%), pre-menarchial and at the growth spurt (10%) and those with curve magnitude of greater or equal to 30 (15%).
ABSTRACT      Our findings showed that the improvised scoliometer reading of 7 can detect scoliosis greater than 20 curve magnitude with less false positive than the Adam's test, and comparable results of other published studies using the standard scoliometer.(Auth)
